The Department of Radiation Oncology at Severance Yonsei Cancer Hospital started providing treatment in 1922, and has the longest history in the field of radiation oncology of any institution in South Korea.
The department is staffed by leading physicians, nurses, physicists, and radiologists, working together to enhance the effect of therapy through radiotherapy.
In addition, at the various cancer clinics, we are trying to provide the best treatment for patients by pursuing multidisciplinary approaches in collaboration with other departments, such as internal medicine, surgery, and radiology, etc.
The Department of Radiation Oncology introduced a highly effective medical linear accelerator in South Korea, a turning point in radiation oncology.
In addition, the department has introduced such advanced technologies as high-dose rate (HDR) intracavitary brachytherapy, oncothermic treatment, total body irradiation, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, tomotherapy, internal radiation therapy, and 4th generation brachytherapy.
Our department is presenting and leading an advanced paradigm for cancer treatment by introducing and disseminating the newest advanced technologies.
In addition, our research outcomes are widely recognized worldwide, as many cancer textbooks have quoted them several times.
